Can You Loose Salvation?
Can You Lose Your Salvation? Or Are You Once Saved Always Saved?
This is a popular topic of debate amongst Christians but there is a pretty crisp answer once you understand the process going on.
What Is Salvation?
Salvation is God’s deliverance of sinners from the penalty and power of sin into a right relationship with Himself. It is:
-
- Rescue from eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23).
- Redemption—being bought back by the precious blood of Jesus (1 Peter 1:18–19).
- Reconciliation—restoring fellowship between God and man (2 Corinthians 5:18–19).
How Are You Saved?
By faith alone—a simple, trusting commitment to Christ, apart from works.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8–9
-
- Grace is God’s unmerited favor.
- Faith is receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, trusting wholly in His work.
How Do You Know If You Are Saved?
True salvation brings inner transformation and then bears spiritual fruit as a result:
-
- A New Heart
Your worldly oriented cold heart is replace by a heart of flesh, you sense a compassion for others and a desire for God and righteousness.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
-
- Good Works Follow
Salvation is not earned by works, but genuine faith results in a life increasingly focused on God’s purposes.
“Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:17
What Is Meant by “Losing Salvation”?
To “lose salvation” generally means turning away from a serious pursuit of God and righteousness, falling into persistent unbelief or willful, unrepentant sin.
Can You Actually Lose Salvation?
The Answer is No — not if you have truly repented and placed your faith in Christ for salvation.
“And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” John 10:28
-
- Security of the believer rests on Christ’s promise and His finished work.
- True repentance involves a genuine change of mind about sin and a turning to God; such faith endures
