The Children of God Will Change The World
Introduction
The world is broken. People are hurting. Families are divided. Nations struggle. Evil continues to destroy lives. Even creation itself bears the effects of mankind’s fall.
But God has not abandoned His creation. He has a plan to restore what has been broken, bring everything under Jesus Christ, and establish His Kingdom. And amazingly, God has chosen His children to participate with Him in accomplishing His plan.
The Bible says creation is actually waiting for the children of God to be revealed. What does that mean? Why is creation waiting for us? And how can ordinary followers of Jesus possibly participate with God in changing the world?
God Has A Master Plan
To understand our role, we first need to understand what God is doing. The Bible presents a sweeping story: God created something good, sin brought corruption and separation, Jesus came to reconcile what was broken, and God’s ultimate purpose is to bring everything together under Christ.
| God’s Plan | What Is Happening | Key Scripture |
|---|---|---|
| CREATED | God created heaven and earth good | Genesis 1:31 — “God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” |
| FALLEN | Sin brought corruption, death, and separation | Romans 8:21 — creation is in “the bondage of corruption.” |
| RECONCILE | Through Jesus, God is reconciling creation to Himself | Colossians 1:20 — “by Him to reconcile all things to Himself… whether things on earth or things in heaven.” |
| UNITE | God is bringing everything together under Christ | Ephesians 1:10 — “gather together in one all things in Christ… which are in heaven and which are on earth.” |
| RESTORE | Creation will ultimately be liberated from corruption | Romans 8:21 — “creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption.” |
God’s plan is much larger than getting individual people into heaven. God is reconciling, uniting, and restoring His creation under Jesus Christ.
How Does God Accomplish His Plan?
God could accomplish His purposes without us. Yet Scripture repeatedly reveals that He chooses to work through people. He calls us, transforms us, leads us, and then works through us to touch other people.
| Step | How God Works | Key Scripture |
|---|---|---|
| CALL | God calls people out of darkness into His light | 1 Peter 2:9 — “called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” |
| PARTNER | God makes us participants in His work | 1 Corinthians 3:9 — “For we are God’s fellow workers.” |
| TRANSFORM | God forms the image of Christ in us | Romans 8:29 — “to be conformed to the image of His Son.” |
| LEAD | God leads His children by His Spirit | Romans 8:14 — “as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” |
| WORK | God prepares meaningful work for us to do | Ephesians 2:10 — “created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand.” |
| IMPACT | Our lives make God visible to others | Matthew 5:16 — “that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” |
| MULTIPLY | Followers of Jesus help others become followers | Matthew 28:19 — “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” |
| RESTORE | God moves creation toward His intended restoration | Romans 8:21 — creation “will be delivered from the bondage of corruption.” |
This gives us an extraordinary perspective on our lives. We are not simply waiting for God to do something. God invites us to become His fellow workers in what He is already doing.
What Is Creation Waiting For?
Romans 8 makes an astonishing statement about the children of God:
“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.” — Romans 8:19
Creation is waiting for something to be revealed. It is waiting for God’s children to increasingly become visible as God’s children—to live under the Lordship of Jesus, reflect His character, follow His Spirit, exercise faith, love people, and do the works God prepared for them.
Just a few verses earlier, Paul tells us something important about these children:
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” — Romans 8:14
And later in the same chapter, Paul describes God’s transformational purpose for them:
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son.” — Romans 8:29
Put these truths together and a powerful picture emerges: God’s children are being transformed into the image of Jesus, led by His Spirit, and revealed through the lives they live.
Why Does This Matter?
Because creation is not functioning as God originally intended.
“For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.” — Romans 8:22
Creation groans under corruption. People desperately need truth, love, forgiveness, healing, hope, reconciliation, and a path back to God.
Jesus came directly into that brokenness. He revealed the Father, proclaimed the Kingdom, loved people, served them, healed them, confronted evil, forgave sinners, made disciples, and ultimately gave His life for them.
Now His children are called to follow Him.
The world does not merely need more people who call themselves Christians. It needs the children of God to increasingly reveal what their Father is like.
How Do God’s Children Change The World?
Jesus described the process in remarkably practical terms. Our lives become visible expressions of God’s goodness.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16
Notice the progression: God changes us. He leads us. We respond in faith. His love flows through us. Good works become visible. Other people encounter something of God. They are pointed toward Jesus. Disciples multiply. And God receives the glory.
TRANSFORM → LEAD → WORK → SERVE → SHINE → ENGAGE → MULTIPLY → GLORIFY GOD
This is not changing the world through human strength. It is God working through surrendered children who have learned to follow Him.
How Do I Align With And Support God’s Plan?
God initiates the work, but we have a response. We can cooperate with Him or resist Him. Alignment begins with recognizing what God is doing and deliberately ordering our lives around His purpose.
| My Response | What It Means | Key Scripture |
|---|---|---|
| RECOGNIZE | See God’s plan and my place in it | Ephesians 2:10 — “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” |
| SUBMIT | Choose God’s will and purpose over my own | James 4:7 — “Therefore submit to God.” |
| DENY | Put aside self-interest, desires, and agenda | Luke 9:23 — “deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” |
| TRANSFORM | Let God change my beliefs, loves, thinking, and behavior | Romans 12:2 — “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” |
| ASK & LISTEN | Seek God’s wisdom and listen for His direction | James 1:5 — “let him ask of God.” |
| TRUST & FOLLOW | Trust His direction and act on it | Proverbs 3:5–6 — “Trust in the LORD with all your heart… And He shall direct your paths.” |
| SERVE | Let God’s love flow through me to others | Galatians 5:13 — “through love serve one another.” |
| ENGAGE | Build relationships and share what God has done | Mark 5:19 — “tell them what great things the Lord has done for you.” |
| MULTIPLY | Help others find and follow Jesus | Matthew 28:19 — “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” |
Why Aren’t We Aligning With God’s Plan?
Knowing God’s plan does not automatically mean our lives are aligned with it. Self-rule, false beliefs, misplaced loves, and reliance on our own understanding can quietly pull us in another direction.
| Barrier | What Usually Happens | Truth |
|---|---|---|
| Self-Rule | I want God’s help while retaining control | Submit: “Therefore submit to God.” — James 4:7 |
| Wrong Identity | I continue defining myself by my past or flesh | New Creation: “he is a new creation.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17 |
| Condemnation / Unbelief | I don’t confidently stand in what Christ accomplished | Righteous: “the righteousness of God in Him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21 |
| Self-Purpose | I spend my life pursuing my plans | God’s Purpose: “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” — Ephesians 2:10 |
| Wrong Loves | Comfort, approval, pleasure, or possessions take priority | Deny Self: “deny himself… and follow Me.” — Luke 9:23 |
| Conformed Thinking | The world and my past shape what I believe | Renew: “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2 |
| Self-Reliance | I assume I already know what to do | Ask: “let him ask of God.” — James 1:5 |
| Distrust / Resistance | I hear God’s direction but still choose my way | Trust: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart.” — Proverbs 3:5 |
Why Aren’t We Executing God’s Plan?
There is another problem. We can understand God’s purpose and genuinely desire to follow Him, yet still fail to walk out what He has given us to do.
Alignment asks, “Am I pursuing what God wants?”
Execution asks, “Am I actually walking in what God has given me?”
| Barrier | What Usually Happens | Truth |
|---|---|---|
| Self-Focus | My time, gifts, and resources remain centered on me | Purpose: “through love serve one another.” — Galatians 5:13 |
| Self-Effort | I try to accomplish God’s work in my own strength | Power: “it is God who works in you both to will and to do.” — Philippians 2:13 |
| Unused Authority | I fail to use what Jesus has delegated | Authority: “I give you the authority… over all the power of the enemy.” — Luke 10:19 |
| Fear / Unbelief | The mountain appears bigger than God’s ability | Faith: “whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed…’” — Mark 11:23 |
| Passivity | I believe but never actually move | Action: “faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” — James 2:17 |
| Low Expectation | I pray and act without expecting God to work | Expect: “believe that you receive them.” — Mark 11:24 |
| Silence / Fear Of Man | God works, but I don’t tell anyone | Witness: “tell them what great things the Lord has done for you.” — Mark 5:19 |
| Failure To Multiply | What God has given me stops with me | Multiply: “Go therefore and make disciples.” — Matthew 28:19 |
Self Test: Are You Living As An Empowered Child Of God?
Romans 8 says creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the children of God. This self-test is an opportunity to honestly examine whether you are living as an empowered child of God—secure in your identity, being transformed into Christ’s image, led by His Spirit, and actively participating in the work He has prepared for you. It is not about earning God’s love or condemning yourself for where you fall short. It is about recognizing where God is already working in your life and identifying where greater alignment, faith, and action are needed.
The question is not simply, “Am I a Christian?” The question becomes, “How clearly is my life revealing my Father?”
| Area | Living Primarily For Myself | Living As A Child Of God |
|---|---|---|
| Lordship | I decide what I want | Jesus is Lord; I submit to Him |
| Identity | My past and circumstances define me | I stand in my new identity in Christ |
| Transformation | I protect my existing beliefs and desires | I let Christ’s image form in me |
| Direction | I rely on my own understanding | I ask, listen, trust, and follow |
| Purpose | My life primarily benefits me | I let God’s love flow by serving others |
| Authority | I accept obstacles as inevitable | I stand in the authority Jesus delegated |
| Faith | I focus on what appears possible | I act in faith and expect God’s grace to flow |
| Witness | I keep my experience with God private | I engage others and share what God has done |
| Multiplication | My faith stops with me | I help others find and follow Jesus |
| Glory | I want recognition for what I accomplish | God gets the credit and His Kingdom advances |
Do not treat this self-test as a score. Look for patterns.
Thank God for the areas where you can see His work and growth in your life, then pay particular attention to the areas where there is a significant gap.
Bring those areas to God and ask Him what He wants you to see, believe, change, or do differently.
Don’t try to fix everything at once. Start with one or two areas He brings to your attention, repent where needed, replace false beliefs with His truth, and take one concrete step of faith. Then continue to ask, listen, trust, and follow as He transforms you and works through you.
Declaration: I Am A Child Of God And We Will Change The World
It is not enough to simply understand truths—we need to believe them and begin living from them.
Biblical declarations are more than positive words. They help bring our thoughts, beliefs, and words into alignment with God’s truth and give us an opportunity to actively exercise our faith in what He has said. As we speak God’s truth back to Him, we are choosing to believe it, stand in it, and act on it. God says His Word “shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please” (Isaiah 55:11).
Speak these truths out loud—not as magic words, but as declarations of faith in God’s Word, your identity as His child, and your commitment to let Him work in you and through you:
Jesus is my Lord — I am submitted to Him and His purpose.
I am a new creation — Christ’s image is being formed in me.
I stand in righteousness — I am secure in my identity in Christ.
I am listening — I ask God and hear His direction.
I am following — I trust Him and go where He leads.
I am His fellow worker — I do the good works He prepared.
I let His love flow — I deny myself and serve others.
I am empowered — His Spirit works in and through me.
I walk in authority — I exercise the authority Jesus has delegated.
I act in faith — I speak to mountains and expect them to move.
I share what God has done — I engage others and share my testimony.
I make disciples — I help others find and follow Jesus.
God receives the glory — He gets the credit; His Kingdom comes.
I am a child of God and together we will change the world.

Call To Action: Change The World With God
Be Bold. You are a child of God and His fellow worker. You do not need to change the entire world today. You need to discover where God wants to work through you today.
Ask God. Listen for His direction. Trust what He tells you. Then take one concrete step of faith. Serve someone. Encourage someone. Share what God has done in your life. Confront a mountain in faith. Help someone find and follow Jesus.
Then ask again tomorrow.
Journal these questions:
Lord, where are You already working that You want me to join You?
Lord, what in me needs to change so Your image can be seen more clearly through me?
Lord, who do You want me to see, serve, encourage, or share my testimony with?
Lord, what mountain do You want me to confront in faith rather than simply accept?
Lord, what specific step are You asking me to take today?
Ask. Listen. Trust. Follow. Act in Faith.
