Receiving the Holy Spirit

What is the Holy Spirit?

  • It is the 3rd aspect of God. (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) (Mind, Body, Spirit)
  • It is God dwelling inside us
  • It is “the Helper”, The “Spirit of Truth” (John16:12)
  • You can only be introduced to truth by revelation – reading, listening – by hearing the word of God
    • “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
  • As soon as we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior,  The Holy Spirit enters us and baptizes us into the Body of Christ
    • We are baptized (immersed / cleansed by) the Blood of Jesus – His Love and sacrifice for us
    • Blood represents Divine Truth – the Truth of Goodness flowing from God’s divine Love – (Swedenborg AC 4795)
    • “Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.” ( 1 Corinthians 12:27)
    • “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body… and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:13)
  • The Holy Spirit provides a voice inside us that points out right and wrong
    • “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13)
    • “And when He (“The Helper”) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8)
  • As you recognize your sins, and chose to turn from them and repent, you will begin to regenerate
    •  “I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.” (2 Corinthians 7:9-10)
  • When you are ready to fully commit to a better life, a believer will ceremoniously baptize you with water
    • Water corresponds to Truth (Swedenborg), You are immersed in truth / cleansed by it
    • This is your personal public testimony that you are following the truth of Christ
    • Your sinful old self is dead and buried with Jesus on the cross, and your new self raises out of the water with Jesus
  • Believers who have repented of their sins are Born Again Children of God
    • But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12-13)
    • “[God] will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you” (Ezekiel 36:26).
    • “Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
    •  We are “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4)
    •  We have “passed from death into life” (John 5:24).
    • “Very truly I (Jesus) tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” (John 3:3)
  • Once we are ready and ask,  Jesus will baptize (immerse) us in the Holy Spirit and Fire
    • …He (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11)
    • “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38)

“…(… ).

“…” ( …)
